1 Jun 01. Oxley Avionics, the UK based specialist avionics
manufacturer, announces the launch of ROTOX, a lightweight anti-collision
high
intensity red LED light for rotary winged aircraft.
ROTOX employs the latest LED technology developed by Oxley Avionics
at
its Ulverston plant. The system is fully compliant with military
and
JAA/FAA civil aviation requirements for external lighting, including
colour and brightness.
Utilising state of the art LED technology, this product incorporates
LEDs in an innovative electronics design to achieve many advantages
for
helicopter operators over flash tube lights, particularly weight,
less
than 0.85kg, reliability, EMC and simplicity of installation.
ROTOX is inherently NVG friendly; the anti-collision light has
twelve
faces, which are illuminated to meet the requirements of JAR/FAR
27 and
JAR/FAR 29 for rotorcraft. The single unit does not require any
additional power converter, it operates directly from the aircraft
28 volt
supply.
The design accommodates dimming for in-flight and ground taxi
intensity
requirements. Variation of flash pattern is available as an option.
Mechanical fixing can be designed to suit the customer's requirements.
Dr Tim Bushell, Technical Director of Oxley Avionics said, "ROTOX
employs the latest developments in LED technology. Oxley is now
a world
leader in LED technology for aircraft external lighting applications
following the work we have carried out with the close co-operation
of the
Royal Air Force and the USAF on a number of airframes such as
F-16, Jaguar
and Blackhawk helicopters. The high reliability, light weight
and
technology of ROTOX has attracted interest from a number of UK
and overseas
military and civil rotorcraft users. We expect to announce our
first
customer in due course.
Oxley Avionics, a division of Oxley Developments, has established
itself as a world leader in Night Vision cockpit compatible systems
since it
was established within the Oxley Group in 1992. The division designs,
manufactures and installs NVG compatible filters, components and
systems for cockpits of fixed and rotary wing aircraft throughout
the world.
Oxley Group comprises three divisions, Oxley Developments, the
UK's
longest-established independent innovator and producer of quality
electronic components, Oxley Avionics, a division which has been
at the
forefront in the development of NVG (Night Vision Goggle) compatible
lighting
systems and special IR engineered components for use in aircraft
and
Oxley Systems which specialises in the design, manufacture and
installation of a wide range of electronic field data capture
systems used to
track and monitor any form of valuable assets in virtually any
type of
working environment.
The company is a world leader in the production and installation
of NVG
compatible cockpits supplying air forces throughout the world
particularly in the UK and USA.
Oxley is exhibiting ROTOX at the 2001 Paris Air Show on the North
West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) Hall 2B Stand K12 of the UK Pavilion.

Elbit Systems' IntraMission, a generic, advanced avionics and
cockpit demonstrator for helicopters and transport aircraft, will
make its debut at the 44th Paris Airshow.
The feature-packed demonstrator is designed to give users an
inside
view of advanced cockpits that's as close to reality as you can
get.
IntraMission incorporates real components including three Elbit
Systems'
6x8" and two 8x10" multifunction color displays (MFCDs),
and two Cockpit
Integrated Units (CIUs). Its advanced Man-Machine Interface is
used for
controlling and managing advanced avionics and weapon systems
for day
and night missions. An array of critical data is easily accessible,
including FLIR and Radar information, tactical updates (including
command
and control), Situation Awareness (including Digital Maps), Engine
Performance, IFR, targeting and armament information.
Onboard for the first time is MIDASH Raster Solution, the latest
generation helicopter display and sight helmet, and one of the
most advanced
in the world. MIDASH's unique capabilities include the ability
to
present diverse video inputs such as map images, 3D surface illustration
images, Electro-optical Pod Imagery as well as other internal
and external
videos and symbols. Additionally, MIDASH features advanced Magnetic
LOS
capability for slaving Electro-optics payloads and weapon systems.
IntraMission is the venue for introduction of two additional
innovative systems: the first, a 3D audio system developed by
Elbit Systems which uses the pilot's sense of hearing to guide
him in the direction of a perceived threat, and the second, El-op's
BIRD HUD (Best Innovative Reliable Display), assuring safe landing
for transport aircraft.

HH SHEIKH AHMED TO AID PENULTIMATE PROMOTIONAL PUSH AT LE BOURGET
2 Jun 01. Space sales for Dubai 2001 - the international aerospace
exhibition being held in Dubai this November - are hotting up
with
organisers Fairs and Exhibitions signing up an average of one
exhibitor every
two days over the past three weeks.
And the show, more than 80% of which is already confirmed or
reserved,
is expected to be sold out well ahead of target.
A penultimate international sales push is to be made at the Le
Bourget
Paris air show this month (June) when a Dubai delegation to the
exhibition will be headed by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Makoum,
President,
Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai.
HH Sheikh Ahmed is to meet exhibitors and potential air show
customers
at a special reception in the Dubai 2001 business chalet at Le
Bourget
and will attend the official launch of the Middle East's first
ISTAR
conference, being staged to coincide with the Dubai air show.
"As Le Bourget comes to a close all eyes turn to Dubai,"
said HH Sheikh
Ahmed.
"Alongside this natural progression is the fact that the
slowdown in
the
US and Japanese economies is focusing increasing attention on
the
Middle
East. Manufacturers and suppliers are turning to this region as
perhaps
the only major international market with growth potential.
"The Middle East is one of the fastest growing markets for
aviation
and, although we do not know if sanctions against Iran and Libya
will be
lifted soon, all the aircraft manufacturers still like to come
here to
make sure that they know the right people in these countries and
are
ready when the time comes."
To date, exhibitors from 25 countries have confirmed for Dubai
2001,
which also has commitments from eight national pavilion organisers.
"Almost a third of the contracted exhibitors are new to
the show
including, Ameco, the GE/PW Aircraft Engine Alliance, MTU Aero
Engines, Qatar
Airways, Rockwell Collins, SIA Engineering and TRW Lucas Aerospace,"
explained Clive Richardson, Chief Executive, Fairs and Exhibitions.
"The
balance of new interest to date is leaning much more heavily towards
the commercial, rather than the military sector.
"The creation of the Airport Expo Dubai has given us 25%
more
exhibition space available than in 1997, some 25,000 square metres
in all, but
with exhibitors expanding their average space by nearly eight
per cent,
we are confident of achieving a 'full house' scenario at the end
of our
last international sales push at the Maks Russian aerospace exhibition
in Moscow this August."
Dubai 2001 will be held at the purpose-built Airport Expo Dubai,
United Arab Emirates, from November 4th-8th. The show is organised
by Fairs and Exhibitions in co-operation with the Department of
Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and in conjunction with the
UAE Armed Forces. www.Dubai-2001.com
